About the programme and competition

CITY OF CAPE TOWN, WESTERN CAPE - Entrepreneurship is a key driver of our economy and it is with this in mind that the City of Cape Town , Smart Procurement World and SCNET are running the Annual Cape Town Smart Supplier Development Programme.

Applications for 2017 are open and will close on 18 November 2016.

Supplier development and support whilst driving a hunger for entrepreneurship, is a key driver of our economy. The intention for this development programme and competition to support, develop and train suppliers for the city and region to engage with. The programme and competition helps give shape to the products, services and aspiration of the mavericks of tomorrow.

The City of Cape Town -Smart Supplier Development Programme serves as a springboard for the winner and finalist, expanding their networks where they receive invaluable exposure for their businesses to corporate buyers.

The programme culminates in exposure for the top businesses to corporate buyers at the annual Smart Procurement World Western Cape / Enterprise & Supplier Development Expo, 7-8 March 2017 at the CTICC

The City of Cape Town ,Smart Procurement World and SCNET want to assist your business to become a “Smart Supplier.

Through this initiative we contribute to creating an enabling environment for enterprise development and business growth.” said the Deputy Mayor, Ian Neilson

 Programme and Competition Format

Accepted first round competition entrants will be invited to attend 3 x training “Smart Supplier Bootcamp Session” . Limited to 50 participants: 

  • Training Session 1 - 6 December 2016: “Smart Supplier bootcamp” with assessments to be conducted post training
  • Training Session 2 - 25 January 2017: “Smart Supplier bootcamp” with assessments to be conducted post training
  • Training Session 3 - 15 February 2017: Briefing and preparedness for ESD expo participation

Top 20 to Submit All financials/ information - 6 February 2017

Top 10 Assessment interviews - 15 February 2017

Top 20 will attend the Smart Procurement World WC / Enterprise & Supplier Development Expo - 7 - 8 March 2017

Competition Criteria
  • To enter programme you need to be based in Cape Town and a South African Citizen
  • An entrepreneur who has been in operation minimum 18 months
  • At least 50% black owned and managed
  • High growth potential that is scalable with a sustainable competitive advantage
  • Compliant and aligned with core industries or sectors specifics
  • Entrant must be a registered supplier with the Central Supplier database, City - Vendor number to be supplier
  • Closing of Entrant Application - 18 November 2016

Competition prize- Top 10 Programme Entrants will receive

  • R5000 cash prize in contribution to taking their business forward
  • Free premium membership to Supply Chain Network, an online tenders/ quotes system, valued at R1900 - Co-sponsored by Supply Chain Network, and City Partner)
  • Introduction to between 5 and 10 Chief Procurement Officers/ buyers in their business sector, providing a linkage to a corporate buyer and possible further contract opportunities.
  • Listing Enterprise & Supplier Development Expo event show guide, that is distributed to over 500+ corporate buyers
  • Access to the complete buyers attendee list for their own business development initiatives
  • Access to Supplier Matchup - the Supplier matchup sessions is a great platform where buyer and supplier met to access new markets and build the future. This is a speed meeting event allowing prime buyers to meet with potential suppliers in their relevant industry.
